Obituary of Dexter DiMarco

DiMarco, Dexter 87 of Ocean City, New Jersey passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday March 26, 2013 with his longtime friend and companion Arlene Brown at his side. Mr. DiMarco was born on November 4, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dexter was the youngest son of John and Emma DiMarco. The family lived in the Frankford area of the city and spent their summers in Ocean City, New Jersey. Dexter began working in the family's construction business at the age of 17 and in 1947 he and his 3 older brothers purchased the business and operated it very successfully for close to 40 years. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and received several accommodations. In 1948 he married Elba Galatola the mother of his four children. They lived in a rural area of Philadelphia near Fox Chase and spent summers in Stone Harbor New Jersey. They were married for twenty five years before divorcing. After retiring from the construction business Dexter moved to Ocean City full time where he enjoyed walking the boardwalk every afternoon with his friends. He loved visiting with his family, gardening, coin collecting and filling his many albums with photos of family and friends. In more recent years he began "wintering" in Margate, Florida to be closer to his children and their families who all live in the South Florida area. He is survived by daughter Linda DiMarco Polly and husband Uhel, son Dr. Dexter DiMarco and wife Cynthia, and daughters Wendy DiMarco, and Janis DiMarco. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Aimee Bianchini Sciulli, Jason Bianchini, Erik DiMarco and wife Jennifer, and Ryan DiMarco. Six great grandchildren: Bianca, Gianna, and Livia Sciulli, Angelina Bianchini, Jaymeson and Sophia DiMarco. Younger sister Dorothy Gerner, older brother James, many nieces, nephews, along with the children and grandchildren of Ms. Brown, Bruce, William, and daughter-in-law Bonnie, grandsons Billy, Bruce and great granddaughter Kylee. He was predeceased by his older brothers John, Frank and younger half-brother Anthony. Dexter will be missed by all of his friends and family who will cherish his memory and his love . A funeral Mass will be held on Friday April 19 at 10am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 3948 Central Avenue, Ocean City, New Jersey, followed by Military Honors and interment at Veterans Cemetery, Ocean City, New Jersey. Luncheon will follow immediately after the service.
