Obituary of Marcia Johnson

Marcia S. Dunmore-Johnson 59, of Henrico VA, formerly of Ocean City, NJ departed this life on February 5, 2023.

She was born on February 12, 1963 in Ocean City, NJ to the late Willie James and Pearlie Mae Dunmore.  She graduated from Ocean City High School in 1981.  She was a member of the Girls Basketball Team under coach Pat Dougherty. After graduation she continued her education at  Norfolk State University of VA  where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Business. She pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha and formed lifetime bonds with her Soros. 

Marcia adored young people!  She made sure every year that she would take her nieces, nephews and cousins to the Ocean City Boardwalk.  Marcia’s love for young people extended beyond her family, so much that during the latter years of her life, she became a teacher within the Richmond School District (Overby-Sheppard Elementary School). She taught her kids to always remember they deserve the same amount of respect as adults. Her hobbies were traveling, fishing and crabbing with her best friend Nathaniel Johnson. She was also a diehard Steelers fan.

Marcia was predeceased by her twin sister Hilda S. Dunmore, her brother Samuel J. Dunmore, her nephew Brian Dunmore, great-niece Michaela C. Young and her great-nephew Micah Tennant-Dunmore. 

She leaves to cherish her fond memories:  Priscilla (Wardell Sr.) Richardson, three brothers, Willie Jr., Charles E. and Middleton Dunmore.  A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends Marcia will be missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.

A Service of Memory and Love will be held Friday, February 17, 2023 at 1 o’clock in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 801 Main Street, Pleasantville, NJ.
