Obituary of John Kiely
John Arthur Kiely, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2023.
Born in Cortland, NY, he grew up in Vicksburg, MS and has lived in Timonium, MD for the past 25 years. John graduated from HV Cooper High School in Vicksburg, MS in 1960, Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA in1963 and Vanderbilt School of Medicine in Nashville, TN in 1967. After completing his residency and a Fellowship in Cardiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital he was called to serve in the US Army during the Vietnam era and spent two years in the US Army Hospital in Seoul, Korea. During his time in Korea, he was assigned to be the personal physician to The US Ambassador to Korea, accompanying the Ambassador on all of his travels. His experiences while serving the Ambassador developed into a love for travel, which continued throughout his lifetime and was something he enjoyed sharing with his family whom he dearly loved.
John is survived by his wife, Mary (Rattigan) Kiely; daughters, Amanda Kiely Bicket (Mark) and Andrea Kiely Smith (Grant); his two precious grandsons, James and Thomas Bicket (who affectionately refer to him as "Pop") and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Jane (Twentyman) Kiely and James Arthur Kiely, his sister, Judy Kiely Williams, and her husband, T Harrison Williams.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, February 16th at 11:00 am in Holy Cross Cemetery, 5061 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, NJ. There will be a service of memory and love offered Friday morning, Ten o'clock at Hunt Valley Church, 13015 Beaver Dam Road, Hunt Valley, MD. 21031
