William Francis Doughten “Bill”, age 87, of Ocean City, NJ, formerly a long time resident of Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully at his home in Ocean City surrounded by loved ones on December 24th 2022.

William was born on September 11, 1935, the 2nd eldest son of John V Doughten, Esq and Grace M LaCorte. Bill grew up in Philadelphia with his brothers and sister, where he attended Saint Martin of Tours elementary school and both North Catholic and Frankford High School. Shortly after high school Bill graduated from the Philadelphia Police Academy and enlisted in the United States Army.  After marrying his love Barbara in 1959, he was stationed in Heidelberg Germany.

Upon the completion of his service, and his return to the US, Bill spent the next 25 years dedicating his life to protect the Philadelphia community, retiring as a decorated and highly respected Sergeant of Major Crimes in 1985.

Barbara and Bill retired to Ocean City, NJ where Bill took his love of great police work and animals and joined the Ocean City law enforcement team as Warden 1 of Animal Control officer. He also managed the Tennessee Ave boat ramp. He formerly retired in the early 2000s.

Bill was a man of few words, but his love for his family was immeasurable. He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and grandfather, and always put his loved ones first. He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a devoted Roman Catholic. In his free time, Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, fixing bikes, and tinkering in his garage. He was a true outdoorsman and loved nothing more than spending time in nature or with animals.

He was a fixer of all things, and a man who truly appreciated the simple things in life and made the most of every day.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Barbara G Doughten, his son Frances Xavier, and his dear brothers John and Robert.  He is survived by his younger siblings Anthony Doughten and Maryann Rogalski (Todz), his 4 children William Doughten (Angela), Teresa Doughten, Barbara Louviaux (Todd), Stephen Doughten (Cathy), his dear nephew John, his grandchildren Stephanie Powley (nee Clegg), Randy Clegg & his wife Brittany, Nico Doughten, Rachel Louviaux, Daniel Louviaux, Amanda Doughten, Teresa Doughten, Stephen Doughten, Patrick Doughten, Mark Doughten, Dylan Louviaux,  Beth Lynn Doughten and Brian Copestick & his wife Amanda.
