Obituary of John W. Wyers

John William Wyers, age 68, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on December 6th, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones after an almost seven-year battle with Appendiceal Cancer. Born in Trenton, NJ on June 24th, 1954, John resided in Upper Township since age 2. He graduated from Ocean City High School as a member of the Class of 1972.  John spent his high school years as a Lifeguard in Beesley’s Point and worked for his in-laws at Whippoorwill Campground.  After graduation, John was employed by Camp Excavating for 14 years performing multiple jobs until he purchased his own dump truck and started and ran Wyers Trucking for 31 years. John also co-owned the Village Card & Gift with his wife Patty for 38 years.

“Gentleman John,” as he was referred to on the race track, enjoyed a lifetime of racing Go-Karts, Micro Sprints, Small Block Modifieds and Sprint Cars throughout the tri-state area. John, racing the #84 car, held the track records at Airport and Bridgeport Speedways for fastest car as well as Point Champion in 2004 at Bridgeport Speedway. When he wasn’t racing, he enjoyed gardening, cooking for his family, and tinkering with classic cars in his garage.

Predeceased by his parents James Wyers, Sr. and Eva (Kiss). Lovingly remembered by his wife of over 48 years, Patty (Camp); children Pamela Griffin (Charles), Angela Wallace (Patrick); nine grandchildren Gabe, Nora, Chloe, Jude, Johnny, Grace, Colin, Matthew and Charlie; siblings Linda Jeffers and James Wyers, Jr. (Sharon); nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and his dog, Clair.

A service of Memory and Love with be offered on Saturday, December 10th, 2022 at 12:00pm at Second Cape May Baptist Church in Palermo, NJ where friends may call from 10:00am until time of service. A burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery. To honor John, we are asking everyone to wear a flannel and jeans, and drive your classic car in his memory.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to ACPMP (Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation) or The Cancer Center at Shore.
