Obituary of William Schalles

William H. Schalles went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2022. Bill was born December 15, 1934, in Lansford, PA, to the late William and Helen Schalles. He grew up in the coal mining town of Audenreid, PA and was a 1952 graduate of West Hazelton High School.

He was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany during the Occupation in 1954-1955. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.  Following his military service he moved to Philadelphia where he met and married the former Ruth Ellen Ryan in 1958. He was employed as an accountant with Getty Oil Company, Snyder Manufacturing Company and retired as a Budget Analyst from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Following his retirement he moved to Lehighton, PA, where he made and cultivated a large group of special friends he considered family. He relocated to Ocean City, NJ in 2018 where he resided with his daughter. While in Ocean City he enjoyed socializing at the Ocean City Senior Center and Wednesday lunches at the Ocean City American Legion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Ellen Schalles. He is survived by his daughter Susan Schalles of Ocean City, NJ and granddaughters Hannah of Wilmington, DE and Lydia of Washington, DC. He is also survived by his best friend Sandra Whiteman of Lehighton, PA and her family.
