Obituary of Barbara Cipriano
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Anne Cipriano passed away quietly in her sleep after a long illness on November 2, 2022. Barb was a gentle, relentless giver in her 80 years as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher and friend to countless people in her home state of New Jersey and her adopted home of Massachusetts.
She was born on February 11, 1942 in Plainfield, NJ. After graduating from Plainfield High School, Barb pursued a career in teaching by earning a bachelor’s degree in English from Holy Family University (Philadelphia, PA) and completing her student teaching in West Greenwich, RI. While teaching English at Orange (NJ) High School, she met Michael “Mike” Cipriano, a boisterous Math teacher, and they were wed on July 15, 1967.
Barb and Mike started a family with a son Michael in 1970 and daughter Robyn in 1972 while living in East Hanover, NJ. After eventually moving to Linwood, NJ, “Mrs. Cip” became a first-grade teacher in Upper Township, a tireless volunteer with Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Friends of the Linwood Library, Theta Alpha Gamma (TAG) and Shore Memorial Hospital (just to name a few) and the kind of mom every kid in Linwood could always count on for a meal, a ride or anything they needed.
Nobody made people feel more at home than Barb Cipriano did. Known for her infectious “Betty Rubble” laugh, Barb brought genuine goodness into the many lives she touched. High school and college friends of Michael and Robyn made annual pilgrimages to Linwood during the 1990s to eat Barb’s famous food and enjoy the warmth of her personality.
She is predeceased by her husband Mike, her parents Joseph and Mary, her brother Joseph and sister Carol Wishart. She is survived by her daughter Robyn (Kevin) Patterson of Plymouth, MA and son Michael (Beth) of Davenport, IA.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:30am on November 26, 2022 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church (Linwood, NJ) following a wake at 10:30am on that same day. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to Cranberry Hospice at 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360. You can also call to make a donation at (508) 746-0215.
