Obituary of Doris Hanna

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Doris Mooney Hanna passed away October 28, 2022, after 91 years of a full and generous life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel J. Hanna, and beloved brother John Mooney. Doris grew up in Philadelphia and attended public schools there, later attending classes at what is now Arcadia University. She served on the Abington Township Planning Commission and was a successful realtor in Montgomery County for many years. Mrs. Hanna was always active in public life and was a leader in the Abington Democratic Committee. When she and her husband retired to Avalon, NJ, she became an active member of the Avalon Historical Society and was a founding member of the Avalon History Center. After moving to United Methodist Communities at The Shores in Ocean City, NJ, Mrs. Hanna pursued a nascent art talent, creating beautiful watercolors and acrylic paintings. She is survived by her children Mark, Kathi (Michael), Nancy (Lars), and Tim (Jennifer). Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and the center of her world—Brendan, Beck, Casey, Doyle, and Kelly. She was their Grandmom, Mom-mom, and Me-mom. And then, there were the family dogs--to which she always opened her home--but too many over the years to name them all here. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.  A memorial service and interment at Cape May County Veteran’s Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are by the Godfrey Funeral Home of Ocean City. For condolences to the family, visit www.godfreyfuneralhome.com
