Obituary of Charles A. Barr

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charles Barr of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, peacefully passed away at his home on September 17, 2022.

Born on November 25, 1937, Chuck was raised in Westmoreland County, PA. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. A master’s degree and principal certificate were later earned at Glassboro State College.

In the mid1960s, his teaching career led him to Meyersdale, PA in Somerset County where he taught high school Mathematics. During his residence in the “Dale,” Chuck met his beautiful bride, Patti. They wed in 1968 and began what proved to be a true love story. They were a match made in heaven.

The couple would have two children, Susan, and Patrick, and relocate to Somerdale, NJ in 1974 to further Chuck’s career in education. He became employed by the Black Horse Pike Regional School District at Triton High School in Runnemede, NJ. Chuck taught Mathematics and eventually transitioned to the role of Vice Principal. He worked for the district for 35 years, before retirement.

Throughout Chuck’s career in secondary education, he coached basketball, cross-country and track, and took great pride in his teams and players. He was a coach, a mentor, and a friend. He was a member of the Runnemede Rotary Club, serving as President for a term. He was a lifelong athlete who enjoyed golfing, men’s slow pitch softball, and an impromptu pickup game of basketball. Chuck was a history buff, read constantly, and was infamous for 300-mile road trips during which he would point out every single historical monument, battlefield, or crossing along the way.  Chuck was a huge Beach Boys, Queen, and Stevie Wonder fan. In his later years, he was a big game show enthusiast, never missing an episode of the Price is Right, Let’s Make a Deal, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune.

Throughout their marriage, Chuck and Patti enjoyed a great amount of travel both domestically and internationally, chasing sunshine and warm sand. Once retired, they split their time between their homes in Florida and New Jersey, and cherished time spent with their grandchildren.

Chuck was kind and generous. He was a man of character and integrity, with the brightest blue eyes and a warm smile that could light up a room.  He worked hard and made sacrifices for his family, instilled solid core values in his children, and was a role model to many.

He honored, respected, and loved Patti in a way that was unexplainable with words, but rather just a feeling you got anytime you were in their presence.

Sadly, Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Tuscano) in August of 2021, after a sudden and brave battle with Covid. After a year apart, they are finally reunited.

He is survived by his children Susan Doran of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and Patrick (Nadine) Barr of Franklinville, NJ; Grandchildren Ruby and Rose Doran, Lily Fox, Peyton, Parker and Dylan Barr; Brother Joseph (Carolyn) Barr of Washington, PA; Brother in-law Lou (Linda) Tuscano of Meyersdale, PA, sister-in-law Sue (Rich) Dom of Meyersdale, PA, sister-n-law Nancy (Kenny Rice) of Warrenton, VA, sister-in-law Sally Jo Tuscano of Meyersdale, PA; Many revered nieces and nephews; Preceded in death by loving parents Joseph and Catherine (Emerick) Barr; Sister Martha Pilkington-Elder; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Patrick and Sarah Tuscano (Carter); Best friend Steve Martorano (Tina) of La Plata, MD.

The family extends their immense gratitude to the professionals from AtlantiCare Hospice for their endless and tireless support of Chuck and his loved ones.
