Obituary of Walter John Allen

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Walter John Allen, 90, of Ocean City, NJ passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 16, 2022 at his home. Born and raised in Ocean City he was a graduate of Ocean City High School class of 1950. He worked for the Ocean City Water Company for a short while before becoming self-employed with his awning business, Allen's Awnings, for over 50 years. If you drove around Ocean City during that time period you surely would have seen Walt's handiwork on many houses and businesses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping and every November would head up to Vermont and Massachusetts for his annual deer hunting trip with his friends. He had traveled to other states as well such as Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho for bigger game hunting. He was an avid photographer and had his own dark room in his shop. He loved taking and developing black and white scenic and nature photos. In the 1960's he had a horse named Fresh Tom that he would race and won at many racetracks all over the country. He met his hunting friends in Vermont when he took Fresh Tom to The Green Mountain Racetrack. It's also how he met his wife, Sonia (Sunny). Both she and he each kept their horses at Isle's Stables in Bargaintown, NJ. He is preceded in death by his father, Walter J. Allen, mother, Avis G. Allen (nee Abel), and sister, Avis Griner. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Sonia (nee Bove) Allen and daughter: Michelle (Ken Wilson) Allen and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. His funeral service and interment at Seaside Cemetery in Palermo will be held private.
