Obituary of Wayne A. Davis

Please share a memory of Wayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wayne Alan Davis passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022, in Somers Point, NJ at the age of 78. Wayne was born on March 16, 1944 in Scranton, PA, the youngest child of the late Garfield and Verna Oakes. Those who knew Wayne growing up would remember him as a star athlete at Scranton Tech, playing and excelling at multiple sports. He went on to serve 3 years in the United States armed forces and was stationed in Turkey as part of Army intelligence. Wayne married Maureen on March 7, 1968, and they moved from Scranton to New Jersey, where they lived in Sicklerville, Ocean City, and Somers Point. Although he left many years ago, Wayne was an extremely proud Scrantonian and lived to see his former Little League rival, Joe Biden, move into the White House. Wayne loved sailboats and race cars, and was an avid Philadelphia sports fan through and through, from the dark days to the championship seasons. His grandchildren were the light of his life and anybody meeting Wayne for the first, second, or 100th time, would be subjected to scrolling through countless photos that he kept of each of them on his phone. Wayne was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Marie Davis, and his two sisters, Doris Kelly and Marilyn Patterson. He is survived by his wife, Maureen Davis, two children, Lori McHugh and husband, John, of Bensalem, PA, and Wayne Davis and wife, Amie, of New York, NY, and 4 grandchildren, Shane, Molly and Logan McHugh and Abigail Davis. Wayne will be honored in a small ceremony on Monday, June 6, 2022 and will be buried at Seaside Cemetery in Upper Township, alongside his daughter, Cheryl.
