Obituary of Philomena U. Amendt

Philomena Uliana (nee D’Angio) Amendt “Phyllis”, 92, a resident of Brookdale in Cape May Court House
formerly of Seaville, NJ went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 27, 2022 with her family by her
side.
Born in South Philadelphia to the late Salvatore and Uliana (nee Mazzola) D’Angio.
She had attended South Philadelphia High School.
At 17 years old, Phyllis met her soulmate, John W. Amendt, Sr. They wed in 1947 and started their
family. In 1955, they founded A. Amendt Pest Control Co.and worked out of their South Philadelphia
Chadwick Street home as well as her many other endeavors throughout the years.
Phyllis was always very active in her community. She had been a Girl Scout leader, Chairman of the Heart Fund and active with St. Barnabas CYO. Once moving to Seaville, she continued her community involvement with the Soroptimist Club, Charter Member of the Upper Township Noon Rotary Club, Red
Hat Society and an active member of the Church of the Resurrection in Marmora. Even in her remaining
years at Brookdale, she served as the President of the Residents Association.
She was predeceased by her husband John W. Amendt, Sr. in 2004, her son-in-law, Robert Kalbach and
her granddaughter Phyllis Marie Martino. And her sisters, Louise, Anna Rita, Diana and brothers, Frankie, Danny and Tony.
Surviving are her children, John W. (Linda) Amendt, Jr., Phyllis Kalbach, Debra (Anthony) Fusco, Judy
Garguilo and Maria Amendt-Smith. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, two
great great grandchildren, a sister: Angelina Cellini and her brother: Benedict (Audrey) D’Angio.
A Viewing for family and friends will be Friday, June 3, 2022 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at The Godfrey
Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10:30 from The Church of the
Resurrection of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 200 West Tuckahoe Road, Marmora, NJ where a viewing will
be from 9:30 until time of Mass.
Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, NJ.
The family suggests memorial contributions in her memory to either St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish Food
Pantry or Knights of Columbus Christmas Project (Feed the Needy) c/o the church.
