Betty Bossuyt

Obituary of Betty Bossuyt

Betty Louise Bossuyt (nee Matthews) of Clermont, New Jersey went to be with our Lord in Heaven on Easter Sunday April 17, 2022. Rejoining her husband Jack who recently passed on February 26, 2022. She was surrounded by her loving family by her side. Betty was born on July 26, 1942 in Akron, Ohio, to the late Clement Vaughn and Elizabeth Betty Matthews (Zeisloft). She lived her early years in Florida, Pittsburgh, PA. and later Philadelphia, PA. Betty graduated from Roxborough High School, in Philadelphia. Nicknamed “Skeets” she often skipped out of H.S. classes to dance on American Bandstand. She met and married her late husband of 59 years, John “Jack” Bossuyt in Philadelphia where they lived and started their family before relocating to Avalon, New Jersey in 1971. Betty was a bartender and manager of the Princeton and Rocking Chair in the 70’s and 80’s. She also was a volunteer EMT and member of the early founded Avalon Rescue Squad of the late 70’s. Later she worked for and retired from the Woodbine Developmental Center where she lovingly cared for her clients in the Creative Arts department and Music Therapy departments and was also very passionate about the Special Olympics. A devoted and loving mother to four children, J.E.B (Lucky), Vaughn (Debra) of Swainton, Gabrielle (Peter Jr.) Peragine of Oceanview, and Heather (Kurt) Williams of Seaville. She raised her children while working hard outside of the house yet still managed to be present for all of their important events and milestones growing up. She was a Cub Scout Den mother and Brownie mom, and never missed a sporting event, practice or game her children were involved in. Betty was a wonderfully caring grandmother to nine, helping raise them lovingly along with their parents through the years. Erica M. Bossuyt, Evan (Casie) Bossuyt, Ethan Bossuyt, Peter Peragine III , Pierce Peragine, Gianna Peragine, Kaleb Williams, Morgan Williams, and Vaeda Williams. She also treasured her five great grandchildren Evan Bossuyt Jr.,Carley Bossuyt, Willow Bossuyt, Isla Bossuyt and sweet Emilia Bossuyt born sleeping. As well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loving brother Keith (Denise) Matthews of Collegesville, PA. In- laws: Gerald J. Bossuyt of Clearwater, FL, Robert M. Bossuyt (Martha) of Pocono Pines, PA, Lorraine M. (Michael) Matalucci of Marmora, NJ, Eileen M. (Pat) Renshaw of Marlton, NJ, Michael F. Bossuyt of Plymouth Meeting, PA and Maryann E. Patterson of Tampa, FL. Sadly Betty suffered dementia in her final years with us which deprived her of the joy of life and living freely with her loving family. Her family, mainly her daughters and husband (until his illness and recent passing) cared for her at home expertly 24/7. We are also grateful to the Bayada home health care team of nurses, therapists, and caregivers for their care, support, and kindness over the past few years assisting the family with both Betty and Jack.
