Obituary of Thomas J Leonard
Thomas J Leonard 93 of Ocean City, NJ and Boynton Beach FL passed peacefully at home on April 6, 2022. Tom was born and raised in Philadelphia and “Philly” remained close to his heart. He often said that he was raised on Cheesesteaks and Tastykakes. He was a graduate of St Joe’s Prep and Villanova University. He was a US Army Veteran and was always guided by his faith. He had a long and successful sales career at Dupont Co. He travelled hundreds of nights annually and logged over one million miles driving to see customers throughout the USA. After Retirement, he and his wife Mary traveled the world visiting over one hundred countries and went on 105 cruises. He believed that you were rich if you had met people from all over the globe and also those residing in your own neighborhood. He felt that if you had enough “Hellos” it would ease painful “goodbyes”. Tom loved traveling, Philadelphia sports teams, Villanova basketball, the beach & boardwalk, shopping, gardening, and anything that his wife and daughters wanted to do. He took immense pride in his flower garden and was so pleased when awarded “best garden” at the Jersey Shore by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Family and Friends gave him the greatest joy as he was an excellent communicator and loved to correspond to everyone by sending handwritten letters to stay connected. He was kind and very generous. We always said that he was “Santa Claus to the world” and when he travelled to the North Pole, it confirmed what we believed. Tom is survived by his three daughters, Kathleen Sink (Andy), Susan Leonard (Joe), and Sheila Struthers (Archie). His sister Barbara Ziegenfuss and Sisters in Law Kay Simkins (Robert), and Francina Collins, many special nieces and nephews and his grand dog Shelby. Tom was predeceased recently by his dear wife Mary of 67 Years in January 2022, his parents William and Edna Leonard, Siblings Rosemary Driscoll, William Leonard, siblings in law, Jack Collins, and Elizabeth Collins. His Memorial Mass will be offered Tuesday, April 19th at 11 o’clock from St. Joseph’s RC Church, 606 Shore Road, Somers Point, NJ. In Lieu of donations, Tom would be so pleased if you would say a prayer for him and his wife Mary. Also, in a world where we can be anything, he would want us to Be Kind. Never be too busy making a living that you forget to make a life. Tom made a better life for all he touched.
