Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanor Anne, “Nancy” Nowacek, age 75, passed away peacefully in the company of family on Friday, March 4, 2022. Nancy was born in Darby, Pennsylvania on August 29, 1946. Nancy resided in Ocean View N.J. She graduated from Clayton High School, Clayton, NJ, where she was voted “Best Athlete”, and is a member of the Clayton High School Hall of Fame. She was voted the Homecoming Queen and was well loved by her classmates. Nancy had a successful 25+ career in real estate management, working at many different companies, including several years at Roseland Property Management, and later at Property Management Consultants. She later volunteered with Compassionate Care, going to visit elderly people at home and in facilities, always sporting her clown nose for a laugh and to help someone smile. She spent several years traveling, following Stars on Ice, and made many friends all over the country who enjoyed the sport of ice skating. She was an avid photographer, and spent many hours taking photographs of her grandchildren’s sporting events at OCHS. She accompanied her family on a 13- day trip to Italy to watch her granddaughter play in an international soccer tournament, visiting several cities including Rome and Vatican City. She also followed the Phillies and the Eagles, and wore the team colors proudly. She loved to sunbathe, and spent time on the beach and by the pool so she could have a nice tan. Later she spent her time crocheting items for her family and friends. Nancy was a bright light, loving, hysterically funny, and always supportive of her family and friends. She was a hands-on Nanny, she had sleepovers with grandkids, made home videos with them, and often made them act out scripts of her favorite movies. Her home was filled with photographs of her loved ones. She was tech savvy, and spent hours connecting with her children and grandchildren using social media. She loved her cat Dory, and everyone enjoyed her countless posts and videos of “talking Dory”-it was impossible not to laugh. To know Nancy was to love her, and the world has lost a shining star. But when we look up, she will be the star that is twinkling. Just like the teasing twinkle she had in her eyes when she smiled! She is survived by her two children, Kristin Nanette Briggs (Norman Briggs), and Fritz Ferrell (Kathleen), her 5 grandchildren, Conner, Nicholas, Erica, Olivia and Xavier. She also had two step-children, Matthew Nowacek and Amanda Uphill. She is also survived by her brother Frank McGarry (Karin), and several nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Vince and Eleanor McGarry, her brother Vince, her sister Patty, and her son Vincent Michael. Visitation will be held on Saturday March 12, 2022 at 10:00 am, followed by services at 11:00 am at Godfrey Funeral Home 644 South Shore Road, Palermo NJ 08223.
