Obituary of Dorothy P. Crawshaw

Our mother, Dorothy Paul Crawshaw, peacefully entered into Eternal Life surrounded by her children on October 25, 2021 at the age of 98. She was born on November 4, 1922 in Woodlynne, New Jersey to Leroy and Florence (Ellis) Paul. She married her best friend and love, George Andrew Crawshaw Jr., on June 19, 1942. He predeceased her in 2010 after 67 happy years of marriage. Of her many accomplishments, the one of which she was most proud was that of mother. She cherished her children and embraced every moment with them. She is the loving and devoted mother of G. Paul Crawshaw (Margot) of Murrell’s Inlet, SC, Eileen Levandowski (Raymond, deceased) of Flemington, NJ, and Richard Crawshaw (Sandra) of Pittsford, NY. Dot especially loved her role as NaNa. Her grandchildren are Lauren Levandowski of Branchburg, NJ, Karen Snyder (Richard) of Cherry Hill, NJ, Scott Crawshaw (Maura) of Lititz, PA, Benjamin Crawshaw of Lakewood, OH and Mark Crawshaw (deceased). Her 3 great grandchildren are Reid, Molly and Owen. Dot lived in Oaklyn, New Jersey for many years. She graduated from Collingswood High School and Camden Commercial School. She and George were married at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in 1942 where they remained active members. She taught Sunday School for 35 years, sang in the choir, participated in Couples Club and founded the Cherub Choir. After moving to the shore, they found their new church home at Grace Lutheran Church in Somers Point. There she was part of Lutheran Church Women and Grace Stitchers and Quilters. She was treasurer for the Auxiliary of Ocean View Lutheran Home for many years. Volunteering was a way of life for Dot. In addition to the above, she was active in the PTA, where she was President for several years. She was involved in both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a long-time member of the Residents’ Council at the Shores and published newsletters for several of her organizations. She and George traveled extensively. They loved camping and seeing the world. They visited all 50 states and Canadian Provinces as well as 56 countries. Square and round dancing was their hobby for 52 years. Dot designed and made their matching costumes and organized some of the conventions they attended. She was an avid reader, master with any kind of needle, bridge player, crossword solver and life-long learner. She loved to bake cookies, pies and especially cinnamon buns. She is also a published author, writing “A Collection of Life Stories”, a true gift to her family. Some of Dot’s favorite times were those spent with family. Each year, for 37 years, her entire clan gathered to celebrate Christmas together. She hosted Camp NaNa for her grandchildren and created special memories for them when she and George came to visit. Everyone joined her for her birthdays. This November was to be number 99. As Dot recently wrote, “I am blessed with good health, eyesight and hearing. I can still knit, read a newspaper or book. I am blessed with my caring family. I will continue to pray for just one more day. Thanks for the memories.” Though her days have ended, we all cherish her memory. Mom, now you know “The Secret”. Her extraordinary life will be celebrated at 12 noon on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Grace Lutheran Church, 11 E. Dawes Ave., Somers Point, NJ 08224. Masking is strongly encouraged. Inurnment will be private at a later date. The family would like to extend an invitation to all to attend a luncheon in the church hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or to UMCNJ Foundation, United Methodist Communities, 3311 State Rt. 33, Neptune, NJ 07753. Please note “In Memory of Dot Crawshaw”.
