Obituary of Major Harold A. Colladay, Sr.

Obituary for Major Harold Arthur Colladay, Sr. 1928 - 2021 Major Harold Arthur Colladay, Sr., age 93, passed away at the United Methodist Community in Ocean City, NJ on Sunday August 29, 2021. He grew up in Glenside and spent a great deal of time at the family farm in Ivyland. Hal graduated from Abington High School and then went on the obtain a bachelor’s degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture. Hal Colladay enlisted in the United States Air Force and became a jet fighter pilot. He served for 20 years. During that time, he was a member of the Falcons 27th Fighter Squadron within the Air Defense Command. He was a veteran of the Korean War and received several citations for bravery for numerous combat missions on his tour of duty in Korea flying the F-86 aircraft. After Korea, he was stationed on active duty in Germany, Florida, Iceland, Greenland and Maine. Upon retiring from the military, he settled near his home area of Glenside for the remainder of his life. He became a PA Realtor and kept his license into his 70’s. As a realtor he attended Board of Realtor functions with his colleagues. He enjoyed meeting new people and formed several long-term friendships from working with clients. Hal was a member of the F-86 Saber Pilots Association and the Board of Realtors. His hobbies were playing golf and learning the new world of computers. His favorite times were spent visiting and enjoying meals with his family and friends. Survivors include his children - Candace Tiley (Jim); Harold Arthur Colladay Jr. (Gail); Jill Fitzpatrick (Brian); Joyce Godshall (Kevin); and grandchildren Samantha Conway (Sean); Lesley Colladay; Meghan Fitzpatrick, and Brian Fitzpatrick Jr. We will all miss him very much. Harold was preceded in death by his brother Robert Colladay; and his sisters Kaye Aman, Elizabeth Colladay and Charlotte van Ingen. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rau Animal Hospital in Glenside, PA. A memorial service with military honors will be held in October at the Ivy Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA.
