Obituary of E. Richard "Dick" Heintz

E. Richard “Dick” Heintz, 74, of Springfield, PA passed away on Saturday, August 21st at The Shores in Ocean City, NJ. He was born on February 22nd, 1947 to Eliston Heintz and Lucy Heintz (nee Hertz) in Philadelphia, PA. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Heintz Wenglikowski (Jon), granddaughter Eleanor, sister Susan Heintz Jordan and her husband, Osborn Jordan, Jr., nephew Scott Jordan, niece Jennifer Jordan Padula (Chris) and great-nieces and nephew Anna, Austin and Allison. A salesman, musician, father, Pop-pop and friend, Dick was devoted to his daughter, Stephanie, and granddaughter, Eleanor. His other great loves were his extended family, doo-wop, drums, bowling, softball, the Phillies and the Eagles. Dick enjoyed traveling to California and Washington State to spend time with his granddaughter, daughter and son-in-law, playing poker and bowling with friends, visiting his sister and her kids in OC, and attending weekly Eagles parties. A United Methodist to the core, he has many lifelong friends from Johnson Memorial UMC in Northeast Philadelphia. For more than forty years he was an active member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Springfield, DelCo. Dick played on and co-coached the church softball team, bowled in the church league, served several terms on the administrative council, and served as head usher for more than twenty years. A fixture on Sundays at the back of the sanctuary he had a smile, warm greeting, or a LifeSaver for all. His greatest love was his granddaughter, Eleanor. Whether playing Sorry, wiffle ball or riding rides in Ocean City she was the greatest joy in his life. He especially enjoyed watching her inaugural softball season on FaceTime. His assessment after years of coaching: “boy can she hit….and she’s a lefty!” There will be a celebration of life on November 13th at Covenant UMC at 2 pm, preceded by a calling hour at 1pm. In lieu of flowers donations to Covenant United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Covenant UMC, 212 West Springfield Road, Springfield, PA 19064 or United Methodist Communities at the Shores, 2201 Bay Avenue, Ocean City NJ would deeply appreciated.
