Obituary of Josephine Capizzi

Josephine Frances Capizzi (nee Abramo), 95, passed away peacefully in Ocean City, New Jersey on April 29, 2021 in the company of her family. She is predeceased by her husband, Samuel John Capizzi after 72 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in 1944 where she was a member of the Glee Club. Josephine was an active member of the USO. She married Samuel Capizzi in 1946 and followed him to Guam on the USS Buckner during WWII. Family life began in West Philadelphia, where Josephine and Sam provided a loving home for their children. Josephine was a firm admirer of the fine arts and presented every opportunity to her three girls, sending them to ballet, piano, and art lessons and weekly museum visits. She frequently took them to the many art and history museums in Philadelphia. The family also took many excursions to local historic locations. Josephine and Sam acquired the Pavilion Motor Lodge in Ocean City, NJ in 1966. Over the next several years, they acquired additional properties along the beach block as well as the Harbor House Motor Inn and Marina on 2nd and Bay Avenue. Josephine, at the helm, greeted many generations of guests at the front desk of the Pavilion Motor Lodge. In her rare free time, she was a member of several bridge groups in town. She was also a member of the Exchangettes, the Purple Hat Group, The Ocean City Community Center, The Italian American Club, and the Hallahan Alumni Association. Josephine and Sam were residents of Fort Lauderdale, FL. In Fort Lauderdale, she was a member of the Italian American Club, The East Broward Women’s Republican Club, The Fort Lauderdale Community Center and various Bridge Clubs. She and Sam were members of St. Damien’s RC Church in Ocean City and St. Henry’s in Pompano Beach. She is survived by her daughters Sandra Swantek (Dan), Gail Della Fave (John), and Sharon Capizzi-Walsh (Jim) as well as grandchildren Brittany Cates (Sara), Christopher Della Fave (Andrea), John Della Fave, Samantha Della Fave, Chelsea Moore (Tom), Conner Capizzi-Walsh, Avery Capizzi-Walsh and great-grandchildren, Dean and John Rocco Della Fave. Her funeral mass will be offered Saturday morning, May 1st at ten o’clock from St. Frances Cabrini RC Church of St. Damien Parish, 2nd Street at Atlantic Avenue, Ocean City, where friends may call from nine o’clock until the time of Mass. Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, NJ. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, National Processing Center, P.O.
