Obituary of Anthony Magazzu

Anthony Magazzu, 75, entered into eternal peace on Monday, April 26th, 2021. Anthony was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and spent the last twenty years in surrounded by his grandchildren at the Jersey Shore. He served in the United States Air Force and was an officer with the Philadelphia Police Department. Anthony enjoyed coaching three generations of his family in baseball and softball at multiple levels. He had a love for baseball and a passion for his Philadelphia Phillies. Anthony enjoyed teaching his sons, grandsons, and nephews the art of fishing and was the king of the crab line. He was most proud of his vast vinyl record collection, playing them frequently, serenading all. Above all was his passion for horses, whether it was racing, training, or owning. You could always find him watching the racing channel or at the track “letting it ride.” Survived by daughter, Nicole Calabrese (James), son, Anthony Magazzu (Michele), sisters, Lillian DelVecchio, Cynthia Hartwig (Randy), Judith Pfaff (Ralph), and brother, Frederick Magazzu (Denise), grandchildren; Nicholas and Ashley Coppola, Nicolette and James Calabrese, and Vincenzo and Pasquale Magazzu and coming soon great grandchild McKinley, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Anthony is preceded in death by his father, Frederick Magazzu, mothers, Sadie Abraham and Beatrice Magazzu, and is once again reunited with his youngest son, James Magazzu. Friends may call Thursday Evening, April 29th from six until eight o'clock at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Egg Harbor Township, 4008 English Creek Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ. His Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday morning, April 30th at 11 o'clock from St. James Roman Catholic Church of Holy Trinity Parish, 6415 Atlantic Avenue, Ventnor, NJ. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Holy Spirit High School Father’s Club at hshsfathersclub.com. All proceeds will go to the Anthony Magazzu memorial scholarship.
