Obituary of Helen N. Hay

Hay, Helen N. (nee Neubert), 97, of Ocean City, NJ, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2020 at The Shores in Ocean City. Born in Jefferson, NJ to the late Henry and Florence (nee Heritage) Neubert and raised in Thorofare, NJ by her loving Uncle Joe and Aunt Elsie (nee Heritage) Eastlack, she graduated from Paulsboro High School and Penn State University where she met her husband of 56 years, Frank Lewis Hay. Together they raised six children – Richard (Sandra), Carole (Geo), Gail, George, Jon and Donna (Daniel Canova) - and were the proud grandparents of ten – Matthew, Aaron, Christopher, Robin, George, Daniel, Katherine, Sarah, Dylan and Emily - and great-grandparents of five – Natalie, Gabi, Sasha, Josiah and Elliott with a sixth coming this month. Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church for most of her life, most recently in Ocean City where she moved in 1978 from Haddon Heights. She actively participated in her church congregations and regularly and lovingly volunteered her time. She was active in United Methodist Women for many years and she especially enjoyed teaching Sunday school to the younger children and taking care of the little ones in nursery. Helen deeply loved her “grands” and “greats”. She also loved the many animals that were lucky enough to pass through her life. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed English history, reading, poetry, sewing, crafting and spending time with her family. Her intelligence, creativity and love were apparent in all she did, from quilt-making to mothering her large family. Burial will be private. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at a later date when it is safer for people to travel and be together. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to The Humane Society of Ocean City, NJ, www.hsocnj.org or to The Salvation Army.
