Obituary of Ronald L. Curcio

 

Ronald L Curcio was born in 1932 in West Philadelphia to Proud parents Helen Miller Curcio and Louis Curcio and grandparents Michael and Anne. He attended West Catholic and Lee School into the eighth grade. The family then moved to Absecon Island where he finished grade school and then went on to Atlantic City High School where he became the first athlete in 30 years to receive four letters in sports. Ron then attended Admiral Farragut military school where he recieved a scholarship for baseball which landed him at Tulane University in New Orleans. Ron seeking Adventure decided to join the the Coast Guard where he boarded and Icebreaker the West Wind that supplied diesel fuel to an outpost less than a hundred miles from the North Pole. After returning from the frozen tundra Ron opened up the first surf shop in New Jersey in the late 50s Ron was inducted into the New Jersey surfing Hall of Fame in 2015 as one of the first industry guys. It was his dream to bring surfing to the young and In Cahoots with West Coast Legends Greg Noll, Hobie Alter and Dewey Weber they brought surfing to the East Coast. After the success of the first Surf Shop Ron and partner Jim Barri (jittery) open several shops on neighboring Islands. Their surf team was winning competitions up and down the coast these kids were his pride and joy as were his own kids Dania Billy and Ronny and wife Joan. Ron had a knack for helping people He was an Atlantic City Lifeguard  for 35 years he was a great bartender he even drove a tractor trailer for a while, he owned and drove a Jitney for years you could say was Jack of all trades. He impacted many people's lives for the better. During the late 70s life changed as life does, Ron divorced and married Diane Caswell who living in Margate for many years, then after being relocated after Sandy hurricane they moved in with his son Ron and partner Rick Fitzpatrick who cared for them till their passing Diane on March 9th 2018 and Ron on February 19th 2019.Ron is survived by his wife Joan Curcio daughters Dana kuehn and Joan Duffy Sons William Fessman and Ronny Curcio stepson Eddie Kuehn, grandsons Tim Doran and Zack, Eli, Sean , Michael and Gabriel Duffy. Sister-in-law Suzanne Sampson and some of his best friends Pete Maggio , Ray Mustaro, George Naame, Ned Humphreys Summer Steelman, Andy Mimnaugh, Bobby Sargent and Jeffrey Taylor and of course Tabby and Robert and their son Alan.  There will be a Paddle Out for Ron on Wednesday, July 24th at 3:00 PM at Bartram Avenue Beach in Atlantic City, NJ. https://www.facebook.com/events/323702675234830/
