Obituary of Joan Petrillo

Joan L. Petrillo, 87, formerly of Ocean City NJ, went home to the Lord on Friday March 23, 2018 at the home of her daughter Joanne Lettieri of West Amwell, NJ with whom she resided since 2015. When the Lord called Joan home she was in the loving arms of her daughter Joanne, with her two grandsons Frank and Mark by her side. Joan courageously battled Alzheimer's Dementia for over 11 years. She displayed grace and strength, and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Despite her diagnosis Joan never stopped reaching out to love and encourage others.

Joan was born on January 12, 1931 in Ashley, PA and was raised in Wilkes Barre, PA. In 1948, Joan graduated from G.A.R. High School in Wilkes Barre, PA, and after graduation worked as a Switchboard Operator for Bell Telephone of Wilkes Barre, PA. On August 23, 1952 Joan married her high school sweetheart, the late George L. Petrillo. Shortly after marrying they started their family and raised five children together. Joan was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Being a loving Wife, Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma was her calling in life. To know Joan was to know pure love. She had a golden heart and it radiated to all who knew her. Faith in God, and great love for Him and her family were her life's breath and greatest treasure. She loved being a Mom and always had a loving word and hugs for her children. As a Grandmother to five Grandsons, she enjoyed playing with them, taking walks, building forts under the dining room table and making special Grandma grilled cheeses, milkshakes, and scrambled eggs. All her Grandsons share these loving memories. When her oldest Grandson Stephen and his loving wife Mary gifted her with 2 Great Granddaughters her joy was complete.

Joan lived most of her married life in Hopewell, NJ and served as a Volunteer at Princeton Hospital for many years, and was a devoted member of Pennington First Assembly of God in Pennington, NJ. After retiring to Ocean City, NJ Joan and George became faithful members of Greentree Church, Egg Harbor Township, NJ. She enjoyed Bible Study, and would prepare meals for the sick and pray for them. She was also known to send greeting cards to uplift friends and family on all occasions. Joan loved to be in God's house and worship Him. She loved to laugh and one of her favorite sayings was "Keep Looking Up until you trip over your feet." She enjoyed hot fudge sundaes, her dog Ollie, taking walks on the Boardwalk, sitting on the front porch of her Ocean City home with her husband George. Joan and George were married 63 wonderful years, and did everything together. Above all, what Joan loved best was time with her family. She was truly a heart of love sent from above.

Joan is predeceased by her loving husband George L. Petrillo, her mother Ruth Griffith, Grandmother Jenny "Big Mom" Griffith and many Aunts and Uncles. Joan is survived by her daughter Renee Hubbard of Lakewood, NJ, son George M. Petrillo and wife Carolee of Egg Harbor Township NJ, daughter Joanne Lettieri of Lambertville NJ, son Jeff Petrillo of Pennington NJ and son David Petrillo and wife Emily of Plainsboro, NJ; 5 grandsons Stephen Hubbard and wife Mary, Frank and Mark Lettieri, George Petrillo and wife Nylea, and Max Petrillo; 2 great granddaughters Rosie and Sarah Paige.
