Obituary of Joanna Armbruster

ARMBRUSTER, JOANNA (Nee WINNICKI) - of Marmora, passed away on Saturday, June 29,2013 at Atlantic City Hospital after a long and courageous battle with emphysema. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, a graduate of Fitzgerald Mercy school of Nursing, she had a long career as a psychiatric nurse and therapist in Pennsylvania. She was employed at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Norristown State Hospital, and Haverford State Hospital. Joanna was deeply devoted to the psychiatric patients in her care. She is survived by her devoted nephew, Robert Henry as well as additional relatives and friends. She was the loving wife of the late Robert Armbruster. She was also pre-deceased by her sister, Dolores Henry. She and her late husband devoted many hours to collecting and sending needed clothing as well as household items and money to needy Indian Tribes in South Dakota. Joanna also served over 35 years as a member of the Shore Memorial auxiliary. Joanna was a life-long animal lover, who felt a deep affection for birds, which were always the recipient of her table scraps. She absolutely loved cats as well as giving them excellent care. As well as her own, she was often called upon by local animal shelters to provide a home for a needy and sometimes challenging cat. She usually accepted, and was a devoted foster "mom" to many needy kitties. Joanna's Catholic faith was a major part of her life. She was a very active member of the Parish of St. Maximillian Kolbe in Marmora, New Jersey. She participated in the Legion of Mary, the Mature Adults' Club, the Devine Mary Devotion and the Scripture Study Group. Friends may call Friday morning from half past nine o'clock until half past 11 o'clock at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ followed by A mass of Resurrection at 12 o'clock noon from The Church of the Resurrection of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 200 West Tuckahoe Road, Marmora, NJ. Burial will follow mass in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, NJ. Donations may be made in Joanna's memory to Parish of St. Maximilian Kolbe, 200 West Tuckahoe Rd., Marmora, New Jersey 08223.
