Obituary of Edward Mowbray
MOWBRAY, EDWARD A. JR. 93 - of Ocean City passed away on Wednesday, June 19th, 2013. Born in Philadelphia, he had been a resident of Ocean City for 91 years. Mr. Mowbray was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Laurel Jean Mowbray. He is survived by his son, Edward A. Mowbray, III, his daughters, Deborah Jacob (Frederick Jacob) and Susan Schlitzer (Martin Schlitzer). He is also survived by five grandchildren including Gregory Jacob, Brian Jacob (Veleka Burrell), Scott Jacob, and Krista Schlitzer (Blas Pacheco) and Jonathan Schlitzer, as well as three great-grandchildren: Angelina, Antonio & Alexander Pacheco. Mr. Mowbray was a US Army Veteran of World War II, where he served with bravery and distinction that earned him a bronze star. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked first as a salesman for a number of national companies, but spent the majority of his life working as a stock broker. He loved living in Ocean City, and in particular, the beach. In the summer months he was known into his 70's as the trim man who energetically walked the beach at over four miles per hour on a daily basis. Mr. Mowbray also loved music. While attending Ocean City High School he sang in the choir and later was picked to be in All State Chorus. Later, while in the Army, he became part of a group that was sent to entertain at various functions. In midlife, he continued to enjoy singing as he became a member of a male chorus in Ocean City. Mr. Mowbray was a devoted father to his three children and grandfather to his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He made his family the focus of his life, and believed that the nicest gifts he'd ever received from his wife Laurel were his three children. He was always there to help when help was needed. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26th at Godfrey Funeral Home, 809 Central Ave., Ocean City, from 10:30-11:00 am, followed by an 11:00 am funeral service.
