Constance Gavigan, 88, was born in Queens, NY on October 26, 1932 and passed away peacefully on November 9, 2020. She lived most of her life in Queens Village and Lindenhurst, NY. Upon retirement she and her husband spent many years enjoying the sunshine in St. Petersburg, FL. Since 2015 she has resided in Marmora, NJ. Connie raised 6 children and was a homemaker. There was never enough money for everything a large family needed, but Connie was “economically gifted” and always managed to make ends meet. This often meant that she did without before anyone else. She had a green thumb and spent many happy hours out in the backyard gardening. She also loved her arts and crafts. Connie was very creative and enjoyed making all kinds of projects for family and friends. She lovingly sewed the most amazing one-of-a-kind designer doll clothes for her daughters. She left a little sparkle every where she went....Bedazzling anything and everything! Over the years she worked at flea markets which she loved. She was the queen of buying and selling anything! She was uncannily lucky in winning at any card game, ruthless at Pinochle and Monopoly, and was the slot machine whisperer. She looked forward to weekly BINGO games. Connie was also an avid Precious Moments dolls and figurines collector...requiring multiple China closets and curio cabinets. (We need to find them a good home...they all have their original boxes!) Connie and Bob enjoyed camping, taking cruises and spending time with their grandchildren. They loved musicals and the TCM channel. They were blessed having Joe and Nadine as lifelong friends and neighbors who shared date nights playing Parcheesi weekly at each other’s house (to save babysitting costs) for many years. Connie also dearly loved her sister Geraldine. She is survived by her daughter Ruthann Meyer (Chris), and sons Tracy Gavigan (Liza) and Shawn Gavigan. Grandchildren include Melissa, Frank, Victoria, Beau, Shanon (Tim), James, JB (Amber), Robbie, Connie, Kyle and Kelsey. Constance was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 61 years, Robert, her sons Patrick and Todd and daughter Colleen, and her grandsons Brian and Ian. A Catholic Prayer Service will be offered Saturday morning at half past eleven from The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ where friends may call from ten o’clock until the time of service. Her funeral service will be livestreamed on the funeral home web page. Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, NJ. Donations in her memory can be made to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes) at https://www2.jdrf.org.
