Helen Whitten (nee Shoonkoff), 82, died peacefully at home on October 15, 2017 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer.
Born August 22, 1935 in Somers Point, NJ and was raised in Palermo, NJ. Helen was the daughter of the late John Shoonkoff and Helen Dailey.
She is survived by her son: Steven C. Whitten and daughter: Sarah Wence and grandchildren: Sarah Michelle Edmunds and Husband Daryl, April E. Smith and Partner Adam Johnson, Samantha Smith and Joseph Dramis, great grandchildren: Jeremy Coralluzzo, Sadie Edmunds, Draven Edmunds, Phoenix Edmunds, Thomas Hall, Nevada Dagostino and Special Friend Libby Schuck.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Joe B. Whitten in 2012.
She enjoyed working at Clayton Construction/Residex Corp. and A. E. Stone, Inc., as an Executive Secretary and Administrative Assistant in the Engineering Department for many years, making many wonderful friends over the years.
She was an avid reader of American History, loved her many cats and gardening in her flowerbeds. She was fond of Harley’s, Bridgeport Speedway and Mack Trucks. But best of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Her Funeral Service will be offered Thursday October 19, 2017 at 3 o’clock from The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ where friends may call from one o’clock until time of service.
Burial will be private.
