Obituary of Ralph Werner

WERNER, Ralph E. - 77 - of Ocean City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on 9/13/17. Born in 1939 in Philadelphia, he lived in Upper Darby and graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1957. He attended Rutgers and earned his VMD from University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School in May, 1968. Ralph proudly served in the Army Airborne's 101st Division and was honorably discharged in May, 1960.  In 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Arlene Weaver, and they lived in Upper Darby. They moved to Toms River, N.J. in 1968 where Ralph worked at the Toms River Veterinary Hospital from 1968 until 1972. He, Lois, and their two daughters moved to Somers Point, N.J. and Ralph built their home and his veterinary practice.  They lived in Somers Point until 1984 when they moved to Ocean City and Ralph continued working in his veterinary practice in Somers Point.  From 1992 through 2002 Ralph was a Diplomate with a Specialty in Companion Animal Practice.

Ralph E. Werner is survived by his wife, Lois, and two daughters, Valerie (Scott) Goucher and Andrea (Bill) Bowman and six grandchildren: Justin, Madison, and Liam Goucher; and Sean, Luke, and Brynn Bowman. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, and dear friends. In 1995 Ralph sold his veterinary practice and became an Associate Professor of Biology at Richard Stockton University where he loved his work teaching pre-medical students. Ralph retired from Stockton in 2015. Ralph had a great sense of humor and was really good at telling a joke. He loved touring on motorcycles and he and Lois enjoyed touring by motorcycle in Alaska, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, and the U.S. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, snow skiing, and especially walking on Ocean City's boardwalk every day. Ralph loved all the animals he cared for and helped over the years, including his favorite Yellow Labs Sundae, Sky, and Sally.

Friends may call at 10:00am on Saturday, September 23rd - service to follow at 11:00am - at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 8t h and Central Avenue, Ocean City.               The family requests no flowers.
