Thomas Walter Ang

Ang, Thomas Walter, age 91, of Ocean City, NJ passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at The Shores at Wesley Manor in Ocean City surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born May 30, 1926 on the 400 block of Asbury Avenue to Horace and Ruth (nee Barlow) Ang, and remained a lifelong resident of Ocean City residing at 108 West Avenue, a home he built in 1958. Tom spent his younger years working at Lamont’s Marina and was a proud graduate of Ocean City High School Class of 1943. Upon graduation he enlisted with the United States Navy and was a Veteran of WWII holding the rank of Radioman Third Class on a Mine Sweeper in the Pacific Ocean. After returning home, he joined the Ocean City Fire Department, retiring as Captain in 1985 after 38 years. When he was not at the firehouse Tom worked for Mazzitelli Plumbing, and he enjoyed taking rides around Ocean City with his grandchildren pointing out all of the houses in which he worked (it was rare that there was a house he hadn’t worked in). He was a founding member of the V.F.W. Ferguson-Foglio Post #6650. He was an avid golfer and member of the Wildwood Country Club. Tom’s recollection for Ocean City history was something he loved sharing with friends and family. He was able to vividly share details of storms, fires, and events that have shaped the town during the last century. Tom will long be remembered for his dedication to his family and the men he served with at the Ocean City Fire Department.

Surviving are a son, Steven Ang (Donna) and two grandchildren, Brittany Ang, DMD and Steven Ang, and daughter-in-law Sue Ang. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Teresa (nee Fazio) and son Thomas, a brother Horace “Mickey” Ang, and sister Dorothy Sapp.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock from St. Augustine’s RC Church of St. Damien Parish, 13th Street at Wesley Avenue, Ocean City, NJ where friends may call from 9:30 until the time of mass.
