Hester Lenore Miller (nee Brandt), 90, of Linwood, NJ, wife of the late Norman 'Dirk' E. Miller for 44 years died February 9, 2018. Hester is the last of her birth family (Jennie and Benjamin Brandt) to pass away and will be greatly missed by her children: Susan Slaughter (John DiMaria), Jan Dineen (Ross) and Kevin Miller (Nancy) as well as her grandchildren: Thomas Slaughter (Jonielle), Morgan Slaughter and Kevin Miller, Jr. She also has three great grandchildren: Ryder Slaughter, Landon and Reese Slaughter as well as, many nieces and nephews.
She and her husband were both licensed opticians and partners in the Miller Optical Co. which was the first optical business in Ocean City, NJ. Throughout her life, Hester served as an active volunteer for CARA, CONTACT, Jr. League, Girl Scouts and was once honored as Volunteer of the Year. Hester loved playing Bridge and Mahjong as well as other card and board games such as Scrabble. She golfed and bowled with friends and family. Hester was a loyal friend, wonderful hostess, and a generous, artistic and very independent person who lived on her terms until she could no more. She loved her family and was proud of their accomplishments. An era has passed... as she is the last of her birth family's and her husband’s generation. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:15 am at Seaside Cemetery in Palermo on Route 9 at Norman Miller's gravesite which is located near the main gate and house.
