Battles, Charles Angelo “Chal” – 84 of Margate passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017. Those who knew Chal were familiar with his infamous business cards which referred to him as “Nobody” however, those who loved him knew he was “Somebody” to “Everybody.” He lived life on his terms and was famous for his many one liners: ABC…Always Be Cool, I hear what I want to hear and I hear who I want to hear, No Worries, No Commitments.
Chal was suave and generous and honorable. If he made a promise you could guarantee he kept that promise. He was notorious for his traveling trunk full of gifts and treasures which he distributed like Santa Claus working from the back of a Cadillac. Somehow he had a knack for giving you exactly what you needed. In his words “I find good stuff.”
He was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 and when asked what he did for a living he always replied “I move the earth.” Chal was drafted into the Army in 1953 and was a member of the American Legion. Chal was a proud Democrat and a generous supporter of numerous charitable organizations.
Chal was a one-of-a kind, unique individual and he will be greatly missed. We are all better people to have known him. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
